Our ethos

The abdominal wall is a complex structure consisting of layers of muscle, fat and skin. Patients with abdominal wall conditions often have issues in all of these components. We offer patients the opportunity for minimally invasive keyhole repair of their hernias rather than more invasive open procedures (General Surgery) combined with cosmetic surgery to optimise body contour where necessary (Plastic Surgery).

At the London Abdominal Wall Clinic, we are unique in that our patients’ treatment journey is led by both a Consultant General Surgeon and Consultant Plastic Surgeon from start to finish. This ensures that our patients receive expert management of all components of the abdominal wall to provide the optimal functional and aesthetic outcome.

The two specialties perfectly align to meet the needs and goals of our patients to treat their abdominal wall condition.

Our Services

  • Hernia

A hernia is an abnormal protrusion from the abdominal cavity through the muscle and usually presents as a lump in the abdominal wall or groin. The hernia may cause discomfort or pain. Hernias can only be repaired with surgery. We can repair all types of hernia (umbilical, paraumbilical, epigastric, ventral, Spigelian, incisional, inguinal and femoral) using minimally invasive keyhole or open surgical techniques.

  • Diastasis recti

Diastasis recti is a common condition where the six-pack (rectus abdominis) muscles separate from their normal position. This is common after pregnancy and/or weight gain. Diastasis recti causes an unsightly bulge between the separated six-pack muscles which can be corrected with surgery to return to a more toned and streamlined midsection.

  • Abdominoplasty

    Excess skin and fat

We provide a bespoke service to remove excess skin and fat by utilising plastic surgical techniques such as tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and liposuction with the aim of improving your body contour. This can be combined with hernia and/or diastasis recti repair to provide a one-stage treatment for all your abdominal wall conditions giving you the best aesthetic as well as functional outcome.

  • A combined approach

At the London Abdominal Wall Clinic we seamlessly integrate the latest techniques in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery to offer our patients a bespoke service for all abdominal wall conditions. This approach will utilise expertise from each specialty to combine minimally invasive abdominal keyhole surgery and cutting-edge plastic surgical techniques to minimise scarring, reduce pain and accelerate recovery.
